Hey everyone! I apologize if this sounds silly, but I'm really struggling with my internet situation. I just moved in with a family in a remote area, and they currently don't have WiFi. They're supposed to get it installed in about 8-10 weeks, but they need to dig a line to the house first, which I don't know much about. I have an unlimited data plan with Consumer Cellular, but it barely lasts me – I can barely watch one Netflix show without running out of data. Plus, Consumer Cellular told me that I can't add more data. I'm looking for suggestions on any portable data options or hotspots I can buy to help me stay connected until the WiFi is set up. I have no TV and I need to stay in touch with friends, so I'm hoping for something that can work in the meantime. Thanks a ton!

Just a heads-up: WiFi and internet are not the same! The house will have a fixed line for internet, and WiFi is just how that internet gets shared. So, if you grab a router, make sure it can connect to the mobile network, plus you’ll need a data plan. But check if switching your current plan is an option instead of purchasing a new device.
It seems you do have cellular service. Consumer Cellular itself doesn't offer standalone hotspots, but since they use AT&T's network, you can check AT&T's website for their hotspot devices. Just make sure to weigh the costs beforehand to see if it's feasible for you.
Right now, your best bet is to grab a mobile hotspot from a cellular carrier like AT&T or Verizon. They have plans for hotspots, although they might not be unlimited. Some of these devices are portable with built-in batteries, which could be really handy for you.
Consider looking into Starlink. It's not the cheapest option out there, but it might be exactly what you need for internet access while you're waiting for the permanent setup.
T-Mobile has good options too, such as their hotspot and an "Away" internet plan. I've used both while on the road, and I found the away modem better. You'd need to buy the device and pay monthly, but it's worth giving them a call to see what they can offer you.
