Hey everyone! My laptop's power connector has failed, and now it won't charge when I plug in the power cord. I had it repaired recently, but the fix only lasted about three weeks. I've reached out to a few other shops, and they all mentioned that this type of repair tends to be unreliable. The laptop itself is functioning well aside from this connector issue, so I'm wondering what my options are for fixing it. I've shared some pictures showing that the connector is directly soldered onto the main PCB. Any advice would be appreciated!

What brand and model of laptop are you working with? That might help people offer more specific solutions!
It’s tough when those power connectors fail! Typically, repairs don’t last as long as the original part. You might want to consider using magnetic connectors which can help reduce strain on the board. If the repair shop didn’t do a permanent fix, you could also look into getting a new motherboard altogether, or see if there’s a docking station for your laptop model that can charge it instead. If you're up for it, you could even explore external wiring solutions or a wireless charging method, though those may take longer for charging. If you have a removable battery, you could look at making a custom battery pack with its own charging port!
Hey, have you checked if the repair shop offers a warranty? It might be worth taking it back to them to see if they can do a better fix. If you know what’s broken, you could try soldering a new connector yourself if you're comfortable with that. Also, check if your laptop supports USB-C charging; that could provide a convenient alternative if it's available!
I had no idea USB charging was an option! I’ll definitely check that out!

I totally get the struggle with those connectors! If you find a good docking station or replacement, let me know how it goes!
