Ready to Switch to Linux: Can I Keep My Files and Reclaim Space?

I'm excited to join the Linux community but have a lot of ROMs and videos that I want to keep. Could someone help me out with the following plan:

1. Set up a dual boot system and install Linux Mint (I'm thinking of using XFCE since my setup includes an i5-7400 CPU, GTX 1050Ti GPU, and an old 2 TB SATA hard drive).
2. Transfer all my files from the Windows partition to the Linux partition.
3. Delete the Windows partition afterwards to free up that space.

Also, I need to mention that my only backup option at the moment is my phone since I don't have an external hard drive. Any advice would be greatly appreciated from this humble Linux newbie!

The first thing you should check is how much free space you have on your hard drive. Also, remember that hard drives can fail at any time, so having a backup is really important—especially since you're moving files around as a beginner. You don't want to risk losing anything in case something goes wrong!

I have about 1.51 TB free out of 1.85 TB, but I don't have a backup. I can copy my files to my phone, but it feels like a hassle. I might just take snapshots of my data along the way. Is my plan doable?
