I recently inherited a 27-inch iMac from late 2013. I plan to use it for some basic university tasks, but I'm totally lost when it comes to setting it up. I don't have a keyboard, mouse, or any idea what additional hardware I might need. Also, if there are ways to upgrade it a bit to make it more modern, I'd love any tips or recommendations! Thanks in advance!

First off, you’ll definitely need a keyboard and mouse to get started. You might find it tricky since many newer peripherals are not compatible with older models like yours. Look for USB keyboards and mice that are compatible with macOS versions around 10.15 Catalina. Once you power it on, you can proceed with the setup!
You should check out OpenCore Legacy Patcher because with a 2013 iMac, you're likely stuck on macOS 10.15 Catalina. If you want to run more recent apps for school, this tool can help you modernize the OS. Just keep in mind it's a bit technical, so make sure you're comfortable with that!
Right, that's my issue too! I’ve been trying to find compatible options, but a lot of newer stuff seems to skip over anything before 2014. Any tips on where to look?
