Should I be worried about my CPU cooler’s size and RAM clearance?

I recently upgraded my CPU to a 7800X3D and installed a Peerless Assassin cooler, which turned out to be a lot bigger than I expected. The cooler is positioned directly on top of my RAM, with the fans resting on the RAM sticks. I'm concerned about potential overheating of the RAM, as this seems like a niche issue. Plus, the cooler is an inch longer than my previous one, and I'm worried that if I order a 3-slot GPU later on, it might not fit due to the cooler's size. Is that something I should be concerned about?

It’s actually okay for the fans to be in contact with the RAM. If your system temps are sitting low around 27°C, then you’re probably in a good spot!

Absolutely, low temps are always a good sign!

It's generally fine for the fan to sit right on the RAM as long as it’s not too tight. If you can, try to place it just above them. But I’d definitely wait for more input from others before making any big changes.

Sounds like good advice! What’s your idle temperature looking like?

Consider this: thousands of those coolers are out there, and RAM overheating isn’t really something you hear about often. You should be just fine!

True, I don’t think it’s something to stress about too much.

You can adjust the fan height a bit if you want to create some space between it and the RAM. My cooler used to sit on my RAM too, and I just pushed the fan up a little. It should be okay as long as it's not squishing the RAM. Just make sure the cooler is correctly oriented since it can be asymmetrical and shouldn't have one side sitting too low.

Yeah, I moved my fans up a bit too. My BIOS shows temps around 27°C at idle, so it seems alright, but I'm a bit anxious about GPU clearance when I eventually upgrade.

Just remember, lots of these coolers have been sold, and RAM overheating isn't a common issue.
