I'm in the process of building my first PC and I've just bought a Gen 4 M.2 SSD. My motherboard, an MSI B850 Gaming Plus WiFi, doesn't come with a heatsink for the Gen 4 slot. I'm wondering if I should get one. What do you all think? Thanks in advance for any advice!

Some Gen 4 SSDs can overheat without proper cooling, especially the ones with certain controllers. If your SSD or motherboard doesn't have one, consider getting a third-party heatsink. Brands like Arctic and Thermalright have good options without breaking the bank.
If airflow isn't an issue and nothing is blocking your SSD, you probably don't need a heatsink. Those Gen 4 drives handle heat well in most cases. But it's worth keeping an eye on the temperatures to make sure everything's running smoothly!
It's a good idea to get a heatsink, but it's not absolutely necessary if your case has good airflow. I run my SSDs without heatsinks, and they stay cool enough. Just be mindful of your setup and temperatures! You can find heatsinks online for around $10, so it’s not a huge investment if you want to be safe.
I'd recommend getting a heatsink since they're cheap—usually around $10. Just check your temperatures first. If they aren't getting too high, you might be fine without one, but it never hurts to add a little extra cooling.
Make sure to look at where your heatsink is positioned. It might be included with the motherboard. If you’re only using one SSD, your motherboard might have a heatsink already. If you think you’ll expand later with a second SSD, it might not hurt to grab one now.
