I'm looking to upgrade my entire PC rig soon to avoid potential tariffs on parts. My current setup is quite old but still works well, though my CPU falls short of some current games' recommended specs and isn't compatible with Windows 11. I recently upgraded my GPU to an RTX 4070ti and feel it's time for a full upgrade. I've been looking at the 14th gen i7 and the 2nd Gen Core Ultra 7, but it seems their performance differences mainly show in AI tasks and laptop efficiency rather than desktop use. Can anyone share reasons for picking the newer CPU architecture over the last gen i7?

What are you primarily using your PC for? If it’s mostly for gaming, Intel might not be the best choice right now. AMD tends to offer better performance per dollar, especially with the x3d chips.
Right now, there’s really no reason to stick with Intel for home builds. The real question should be whether to go for AMD’s Zen 4 or 5.
I just want to keep my options open in case I find a good deal.
The i7 14700k is definitely more powerful, but the Ultra 7 is known for its energy efficiency. So, it depends on whether you prioritize performance or power consumption.
Thanks for clarifying that! It’s helpful to know the trade-offs.
I do game a bit, but I also use my computer heavily for music production and Adobe software.
