I'm currently building a new PC and I've noticed that while DDR5 has been in short supply, DDR4 seems to be more readily available. I'm weighing my options and considering spending about $250-300 on DDR5, but can get DDR4 for around $150. Which one would be the better choice for my build?

Most CPUs only support either DDR4 or DDR5, so it's really important to check compatibility before making a decision. If your CPU supports DDR5, I'd say go for that, but if it's only DDR4, you’ll have to stick with DDR4 for your build.
Honestly, DDR4 used to be super cheap, like $45-$50 for a 32GB kit. Prices have gone up, but it's still a budget-friendly option, and if you're not looking for extreme performance, it could do just fine for now.
I saw a motherboard that supports both DDR4 and DDR5, which could be a good compromise for your situation. You could buy DDR4 now and upgrade to DDR5 later if you decide to. Just keep in mind that the performance gap might not be noticeable for regular use.
If you're planning to keep your build for a while, consider grabbing DDR5. Any DDR4 platform might feel outdated quickly as we approach 2026. Just keep an eye out for sales; you might find 32GB of DDR5 for around $200, which is totally worth it.
