I'm a graphic design student currently working on a freelance project for a client as part of my course. My client is a therapy practice that needs an updated brand identity and a new website since their current one isn't mobile-friendly and is outdated. They are currently using Weebly, but I've learned that it's being phased out. I want to know if I should suggest migrating them to a new platform like SquareSpace or Wix, or if I should consider creating a custom-coded website instead. I'm also unsure if I need their account information to access their current site or if there's a better way to do that. Any advice on how to approach this project that balances their needs and my current skill level would be super helpful!

I really think you should avoid doing any custom coding for now. You're more of a graphic designer than a web developer, so sticking to making a simple site with what you know is smarter. If you try to build something custom, it's likely to take a lot of time, and it could turn out to be less effective than just updating their current website. Plus, keep in mind that switching platforms has its own set of challenges, especially related to SEO. Focus on doing what you’re supposed to for your school project and don’t overextend yourself!

Thanks for the insight! You mentioned SEO concerns—wouldn't the existing data be attached to their domain? If they keep the old domain, wouldn’t that help with the transition?
