Should I Update My BIOS?

Hey everyone! I built my PC back in 2022 with an i7 12700K, a 3080, and 32GB of DDR5 RAM. I'm using the ASUS TUF Z690 Plus Wi-Fi motherboard. I'm contemplating updating my BIOS since the current version I'm on is 1601, which seems pretty outdated. However, I've heard mixed things about the latest BIOS versions causing issues with 12th-gen CPUs. Should I just go for the latest update, or is it better to maybe do a mid-update first? I also read that the old BIOS needs to upgrade Intel ME, and that the newest version does that at the same time. Any guidance would be appreciated! Thanks!

I say go for the latest version! Keeping your BIOS updated is vital to ensure everything runs smoothly, especially when you're going with newer hardware.

In general, updating your BIOS is beneficial since it usually brings in security and stability updates. I’d recommend going straight to the latest version unless you see specific issues mentioned for your setup. It's usually worth the upgrade!

I get that, but I came across someone on an ASUS forum who claimed a BIOS update fried his motherboard. Those kinds of stories make me nervous!

Honestly, I think you're overthinking this. Just grab the latest BIOS and put it on a flash drive—it's really straightforward. It’s designed to be updated easily!

Yeah, but I still worry after hearing that someone could have fried their motherboard or CPU. That kind of stuff sticks with you!
