I'm an ex-PC builder returning to the scene after more than a decade. I recently put together a new PC and have a couple of questions about connecting displays. My graphics card, the RTX5060, comes with four display ports: one HDMI and three DisplayPorts. I'm planning to set up dual monitors, and I'm trying to decide how to connect them. Should I connect one monitor to HDMI and the other to a DisplayPort, or is it better to connect both monitors using DisplayPorts? My monitors are old Asus models that are about ten years old—will it even make a difference in performance or quality? It may seem pointless to look for the best setup with older displays, but it would be good to know what to consider for when I eventually upgrade them!

If you’re using Linux, just be aware that it can prioritize DisplayPort as the primary monitor, which might cause some minor inconveniences if you disconnect and reconnect things. Other than that, I’ve faced no notable issues with performance.
I've got a similar setup with one monitor on HDMI and the other on DisplayPort, and honestly, it works perfectly for me. You likely won’t run into any problems.
Just make sure the BIOS is set correctly for your display ports. Unless you’re doing some high-end gaming, it probably doesn’t matter too much, but if you are gaming, stick with DisplayPort.
In most cases, DisplayPort is the better option. If you can use two DisplayPort cables, go for it! They typically offer better quality for multi-screen setups, especially when you update your monitors in the future.
It really depends on your specific monitors, but for many setups, choosing either HDMI or DisplayPort works just fine. If you’re using older monitors, you might not see a huge difference.
