Struggling with Switching from Windows to Linux: How Can I Make the Transition Easier?

Hi everyone, I've been trying to switch from Windows 10 to Linux for about six months, but I've encountered a lot of issues across different distributions. I've dabbled with Linux Mint, CachyOS, ZorinOS, and now I'm giving Ubuntu a shot. Unfortunately, each distro has thrown its own set of challenges my way. For instance, Linux Mint had my internet crawling at just 50-100kbps instead of the usual 35Mbps. CachyOS wouldn't recognize my headphones at all. ZorinOS crashed frequently while gaming, and Ubuntu has been a mixed bag of low volume issues, app installation errors, and high ping while gaming. I'm beginning to wonder if I'm just unlucky or if these problems are common. Can anyone relate to this? What's the best way to seek help when issues arise? Am I overthinking this?

Wow, you have quite the list of troubles! Honestly, I've only had minor issues switching to Linux. It sounds like you're dealing with some specific bugs that aren't typical. You might want to try another distro like Fedora; I've heard good things about its compatibility with various hardware.

Fedora is great! It’s generally a solid choice for those who want fewer headaches. Why not give it a shot?

I might just do that! I appreciate the suggestion.

Your internet speed issue sounds frustrating, but it could be related to your hardware or even the settings on your router. Make sure to check those! I also had a router issue once that slowed my connection considerably. As for your other problems, it can be a bit hit or miss with Linux—some things just work while others don't. Consider trying a fresh install with a reliable USB. It might help!

And yeah, a clean install from a solid USB can make a big difference. Good luck!

Good point about the router! I’ll take a look at that, thanks.

You're definitely not alone in this! Linux can be tricky, and each distro has its quirks. It may take time and trial-and-error to find one that works flawlessly with your hardware. I had a tough time with Debian myself, but I eventually found solutions on various forums. My advice? Don’t try Linux on your main PC right away. I use Windows on my desktop and experiment with Linux on a laptop, so I don’t run into as many issues. Keep at it and don’t lose hope!

You should definitely check the specific forums for your distro. You'd be amazed at how many people might have the same issues and solutions already shared!

Thanks! That makes sense. I’ll keep experimenting and looking for solutions.
