Hey everyone! I'm looking to completely overhaul a Polish press website dedicated to news, reviews, and hardware tests. It's quite popular, but the current system is outdated, full of bugs, and just plain ugly. I want to rewrite everything, but I'd like to maintain the existing layout to avoid any SEO issues since a drastic change might not sit well with Google.
Currently, the website is built with PHP and a custom in-house framework, which is really showing its age. I need something modern but would like to keep the overall layout similar. I'm considering several tech options:
* **PHP with Symfony**
* **PHP with CakePHP**
* **Modified WordPress, but I'm not sure if that's advisable in 2025?**
The new system should be user-friendly and easy to maintain. We're not looking for complex features that require heavy scripting. While I do have some experience with the MEAN stack, I think sticking with PHP might be safer since I want to keep the layout intact. I'll be doing the development myself, and I have background knowledge in PHP, CakePHP, Symfony, JavaScript, and the MEAN stack.
Any advice on what technology might suit me best? Thanks!

If you want something straightforward, I'd recommend WordPress. Given your site's focus, it suits your content type well, plus you get lots of built-in functionalities. I’ve maintained a Symfony app for a while, and while it's powerful, it can take longer to set up compared to WordPress. But if you’re looking for more control and don’t mind delaying your project, go for Symfony! It's developer-friendly but requires more work to get it ready.

I've been leaning towards WordPress too but nervous about updates breaking stuff. Did you face this problem? Plus, our site has a custom tagging system based on BBCode—can that work with WordPress?
