I'm fairly new to Linux and still using my old 2008 computer, which currently has Windows 10 installed. Surprisingly, it doesn't freeze as much as I expected. I've previously tried using Ubuntu and Mint, but Ubuntu had freezing issues. I'm looking for some lightweight Linux distros that would work well on my aging machine. I mainly use it for web browsing, occasionally streaming videos, and practicing Python. Any recommendations?

I think the issue might be more about the desktop environment than the distro itself. You might get better performance using a window manager like XFCE instead of a full DE.
Since you've tried Mint before, if the latest version isn't to your liking, MX Linux or AntiX might be worth a look for lightweight options. Also, knowing how much RAM and the specs of your PC could help narrow it down.
Mint is a solid choice, especially the XFCE version; it usually runs smoothly on older hardware. It might be just what you need!
You could check out the distro selection page in our wiki for more options! Just remember to back up your data and familiarize yourself with commands before diving in.

If you're into rolling releases, give Fedora with the XFCE desktop a shot. It works well too, and both are great options!
