Hey everyone! I've made a few hops between Linux distributions in the past, starting from Windows 11 to Cachyos and Endeavouros, but I eventually returned to Windows since I needed CAD software for work and DaVinci Resolve for a new hobby. After some trial and error, I managed to set up a Distrobox for DaVinci, which was a mini victory for me!
Now, I want to switch back to Linux since I don't need CAD anymore—I have an office laptop for that. I'm considering Bazzite mainly because I've heard it's great for gaming with an Nvidia GPU, which is a big plus for me.
I read that Bazzite is immutable, meaning it's read-only? Does that mean I can't mess things up, which sounds perfect for a beginner like me? But how would I go about installing apps? I also wonder if DaVinci Resolve should work since it's based on Fedora. Previously, I used KDE but had some sleep issues, so I'm thinking of going with GNOME this time around. The only thing I miss from Windows is the Lenovo Vantage app for my laptop's fan controls and BIOS updates. How does that work on Linux? Can I still change fan speeds? Any insights would be super helpful!

Bazzite is a fantastic choice for beginners! Its immutable nature means you can't really screw things up, which can be a huge relief. Apps are mainly installed using Flatpak or Distrobox, and Bazzite makes that part pretty user-friendly too. However, be aware that eventually, you might need more tweaking than an immutable setup allows, but that’s something to worry about later. For now, it's solid for gaming and everyday use.
Haha, I totally get the peace of mind! Using Distrobox can feel a bit tedious since you have to log in or start a session to use certain apps. But Flatpaks are usually pretty straightforward from the software store, so that's a win! Plus, I've found some great resources online for learning Linux that could help you out.
