Thinking of Upgrading My Ryzen 5 9600X—Need Advice!

Hey everyone! I built my gaming PC last February, and I'm starting to hit a bit of a snag. Right now, I have a Ryzen 5 9600X paired with a 9070XT in a Lian Li Dan A3 case. I've got a 360mm Lian Li Galahad 360 AIO cooler, an A850GL PSU, and just one Arctic fan for exhaust because my GPU takes up too much space for bottom fans.

I mostly play esports titles and enjoy high FPS, but I also run background software like SignalRGB and Wallpaper Engine, which seem to be pushing my 9600X to its limits. In games like Siege X, I drop to about 100 FPS when that software is running.

I'm considering upgrading to the 7800X3D since it seems like a solid choice in terms of price to performance, but I'm also looking at the 9900X, which I can get for around the same price. Is the 7800X3D the best option for my needs?

In a gaming setup like yours, going for a Ryzen 9 doesn't make much sense unless you really need the extra power. I'd actually recommend the 9800X3D instead. It offers a noticeable boost in both single and multi-core performance, which could definitely help with those background tasks you're dealing with.

Yeah, it sounds like SignalRGB and Wallpaper Engine are taking up a fair bit of usage. Have you tried optimizing them? I know it can be a pain, but sometimes just tweaking those settings can really help.
