I'm putting together a new PC build mainly for productivity tasks like coding and using Blender, but I also want to game on it. I've opted for an Intel CPU because I've heard it offers better single-core performance. My budget is around €3000, and I'm totally open to any suggestions or tweaks to my parts list. Here's what I've selected so far:
- **CPU:** Intel Core Ultra 9 285K 3.7 GHz 24-Core Processor (€615.90)
- **CPU Cooler:** ARCTIC Liquid Freezer III Pro 360 (€98.90)
- **Motherboard:** MSI MAG Z890 TOMAHAWK WIFI ATX (€229.90)
- **Memory:** Kingston FURY Beast 64 GB (2 x 32 GB) DDR5-6400 CL32 (€245.84)
- **Storage:** Samsung 990 Pro 2 TB NVME SSD (€174.90)
- **Video Card:** Gainward Phoenix GeForce RTX 5080 16 GB (€1209.00)
- **Case:** Fractal Design North XL ATX Full Tower (€189.90)
- **Power Supply:** Corsair RM850e 850 W (€136.90)
The total comes to €2860.16. Any feedback or suggestions on this build?

Just a heads up, Intel CPUs are not currently the best for single-core performance, especially in gaming. They excel in multi-core tasks, which is great for coding and rendering, but for gaming, they might not be the top choice. You could consider something like the AMD 9950X3D for better performance in those areas. Also, your memory is quite pricey; you could save around €120 by looking at other options. As for the GPU, the 5080 isn't showing a significant performance boost over the 5070TI, so it might not be worth it unless you specifically need more VRAM for gaming at high settings. Keep an eye out for the upcoming NVidia Super refreshes too; they might have improved specs.
Oh, and definitely think about upgrading your PSU to something like a 1000W, just to be safe!
I personally recommend going with a minimum of a 1000W PSU. The 850W might work, but it'll be pushing it. I used a PSU calculator when I built my PC last year, and my setup uses about 70% of my 850W. Since the 285K uses more power than most CPUs out there, it’s better to have that extra headroom just in case. It’ll save you from any potential issues down the road.
Thanks for the tip! Definitely going to look into a higher wattage PSU.
Thanks for the insights! I didn’t realize the GPU could be a bottleneck. I'll take a look at other memory options to save some cash and definitely consider a higher wattage PSU.
