Touch ID Only Works When My Hands Are Wet – Is That Normal?

Hey folks,

I'm running into a weird issue with the Touch ID on my 10th gen iPad, and I'm really curious if this is a common thing or if I might have a hardware problem. Here's what I've noticed:

- When my hands are wet after washing them, Touch ID works like a charm, including the tip of my finger.
- Once my fingers dry out, it becomes nearly impossible for the sensor to recognize the fingertip, and setting it up is a struggle with errors popping up.
- Interestingly, if I use the lower section of my finger, it works perfectly every time.

To sum it up:
- Fingertip = unreliable unless a bit wet.
- Mid-finger = works flawlessly.

I've already tried cleaning the sensor, re-adding my fingerprints multiple times, and even adding the same finger several times with no success. There are no cracks or any form of damage on my device.

So, is this likely due to my skin being too dry, or could it mean there's a problem with the Touch ID hardware? Has anyone else dealt with something similar on their iPad 10th gen? Thanks!

Have you thought about moisturizing your hands? Or trying to reset Touch ID when they're dry? Might make a difference!

Honestly, if it works fine with a clean finger, it's probably an issue with your finger rather than the iPad. Maybe set up a pin or passcode instead, just in case Touch ID becomes a hassle.

I guess you're right! I’ll set up a backup just in case.

Also, the post formatting looks a bit off. Maybe that’s why there's some confusion?

Have you tried resetting your Touch ID? Just be sure to do it when your hands aren’t wet, that might help.

It sounds like your fingerprint ridges could be on the shallow side. In cold weather or if you've used moisturizer, it might be harder for the sensor to pick it up. When it doesn’t work well, try warming your fingertips on a warm drink; it might help it work better. Just a thought! Also, if this started happening out of nowhere, it might be worth checking your blood pressure too.
