Hey everyone! I just ordered a prebuilt PC that's on its way, and I'm planning to move the SSD from my gaming laptop to be the main drive for the new machine. Additionally, I'm looking to clone the laptop's HDD to the SSD of the new PC. My question is, will the necessary drivers for the new PC automatically download after I boot it up? Or do I need to connect it to an ethernet cable first so the Wi-Fi driver can install? Also, do I need to download the motherboard drivers from the manufacturer's website? And what happens to my Windows license when I switch the SSD? Thanks in advance for any insights!

Cloning your drive can work, especially with newer Windows versions that are more forgiving about driver compatibility, but you should definitely back up your new PC first! Windows can often find the drivers it needs after booting, but it’s always smart to download the latest ones from the manufacturer just to be safe. And for transferring your files, try using a network or a portable drive instead of cloning everything—it'll make things smoother.
Honestly, I recommend doing a fresh install of Windows instead of cloning. It could lead to a lot of issues, especially if you're switching from a laptop to a completely different PC. Windows is much better at handling fresh installs compared to being moved around like this. As for the Windows license, it's usually tied to the laptop's BIOS, so you might run into activation problems when you switch to the new system.
Exactly! It's the best way to avoid potential blue screens. A clean setup just saves you so much hassle.
If you can, just start fresh and move over the important files. Windows doesn't handle hardware changes well, especially when going from HDD to SSD. Also, laptops often have a license that won't activate on a new PC due to hardware changes, so you're likely to face issues there too. Keeping your laptop's SSD as a secondary drive is a good move, though—you can access all your files without having to clone everything.
Yep, having a second drive is a lifesaver! Just be sure to back up all your important stuff first.

Totally agree! I've had my share of headaches with cloned drives, so transferring files instead works way better.
