I've got an ancient Asus M4a89GTD motherboard that's been reliable for a long time, but now it's giving me a headache. Every time I try to boot it up, I get a message saying 'NEW CPU INSTALLED,' and I have to choose between F1 to enter the setup or F2 to use the current settings. The weird part is that the hard drive with Windows 10 works perfectly on another machine, and I've checked that the motherboard battery is fine. Sometimes it will boot up normally, but most of the time it just cycles back to that same message. Am I missing something here? What should I do?

It sounds like your CMOS battery might actually be the issue, despite you saying it's fine. If it's old, it might not be providing the necessary voltage for the motherboard to recognize the settings properly. Try replacing the battery just to rule it out. It's a cheap fix and can often solve boot issues.
Definitely check the battery and the socket. Sometimes a little dust or corrosion can prevent a good connection. If the battery tests fine, try reseating it and cleaning the contacts. It's a common issue for older boards like yours.
I’ll recheck the contacts and clean them up. Sounds like a solid plan, thanks!

Thanks for the tip! I’ll get a new battery and see if that changes anything.
