Trouble with Slow Internet Speed on One PC

I'm really struggling with my home internet setup and could use some help. I have an Xfinity internet package that's supposed to provide 1000 mb/s. We have two PCs connected directly to the router via Ethernet. My son's PC gets the speed it's meant to (about 930 mb/s), but mine is only hitting 10-30 mb/s and often drops to under 1 mb/s.

I'm using a 100 ft Cat 6 cable and am located right next to the router. My son has the same type of cable, but his setup includes a network switch and extender on the other end, which is about 50 ft away on the second floor. I've tried switching the Ethernet cables around, and we've tested different setups with the network switch and extender, but nothing seems to help.

I've been in contact with Xfinity for two weeks, but they haven't been able to resolve the issue, especially since my son's PC works perfectly. I've restarted the router countless times and disconnected every other device in the house. This issue is quite frustrating, especially since my wife and I both work from home. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Have you checked if it’s a software issue? Sometimes programs like Killer Network can mess with speeds. You might want to try booting from a live OS like Hiren’s Boot CD (it’s based on Windows 11) or a Linux distro like Ubuntu to see if the problem persists there. Since you’re right next to the router, try using the shortest cable you have.

I got most of that! Haha! So you're super close to the router? Have you tried a shorter cable at all? And yeah, Hiren's Boot CD is what I meant—it's helpful to rule out software issues.
