Upgrade Suggestions for an LGA 775 PC

I'm looking for some upgrade recommendations for my PC that uses the LGA 775 socket. Here are my specs:

- CPU: Core 2 Q6600
- Integrated GPU: GMA 3100
- RAM: Corsair XMS2 2x2GB 800MHz CL5
- Motherboard: DG31PR

What are some ways I can improve performance? I'm interested in overclocking possibilities, better GPUs, power supply options, and the best CPUs compatible with the 775 and 771 sockets. Are there motherboard mods I should consider as well? Would appreciate any insights or recommendations!

That Q6600 was a powerhouse back in its day! If you're looking to upgrade, the biggest improvement will definitely come from adding a dedicated GPU. Something like a GTX 750 Ti or a Radeon 7850 would be a great match. Just double-check that your PSU can handle it since those older Dell setups often had weaker power supplies.
For CPU upgrades, you're pretty much limited to more LGA 775 chips unless you’re up for the 771 mod, which is possible but requires some tinkering. The Q9650 or Q9550 are solid choices if you can snag them at a good price. Also, don't forget about overclocking that Q6600—it really shines with some decent cooling and tighter RAM timings!

What's your main goal with this setup? If you're not aiming for gaming, maybe think about using it as a NAS or a light streaming PC. Otherwise, it might not be worth much more than a conversation piece!

I just want to keep it running for light tasks, maybe media consumption or basic use.

To be honest, most upgrades wouldn't be worth the money on such an old system. While overclocking can give you a little boost, it likely won't bring enough performance for modern gaming or productivity tasks. I’d suggest focusing on practical improvements instead.

If you haven’t already, adding an SSD could give your system a noticeable speed increase in terms of load times and overall responsiveness. Beyond that, I wouldn't waste money on other upgrades for such an old computer.
