What are some good open source alternatives to 1Password after their recent price hike?

Recently, 1Password raised their pricing by a whopping 33%, and it's left a lot of us considering our options. I'm contemplating switching to something else, perhaps Apple's built-in password manager since it's free, but I want to hear if anyone else has made a similar transition and what their experience was like. Also, what are some solid open source alternatives that I can look into?

If you’re looking for simplicity, Vaultwarden might be a great choice as it replicates Bitwarden's functionality and is easy to self-host. Plus, it's open source!

Exactly! And you get to control your data completely from your server.

Have you checked out Bitwarden? It's a great option and very popular among users. It even has a mobile app, making it super user-friendly.

Yeah, I totally agree! Bitwarden has worked wonders for me, and it even includes a self-hosted option if you’re into that.

If you’re considering another option, KeePass is highly recommended. It's a classic choice and free, but keep in mind it doesn’t have the smooth integration that some others do.

What versions of KeePass would you suggest for mobile devices?

Honestly, I’m considering Apple Passwords. While it can be limiting if you're not in the Apple ecosystem, it’s free and convenient for basic needs. But if you're looking for cross-platform options, I'd stick with something like Bitwarden.

True, Apple Passwords is a decent choice, but I find it lacking in features compared to others.

I recently started using Proton Pass since I already have a Proton subscription. It’s included and works pretty well, plus it aligns with my privacy-focused approach.

Same here! I love how it integrates seamlessly into the Proton ecosystem.
