What are the best upgrades for my PC with a $500 budget?

I'm looking to upgrade my PC but I'm not sure where to start. I have some basic knowledge about computers (like what RAM is), and I've already changed the cooler myself. My main concern is to stay ahead of the curve, especially since I play VR games. Right now, I don't have major performance issues, but I noticed some dropped frames in intense multiplayer games and I'm capped at about 60 FPS. I'd like to get your opinions on what I'd get the most out of for a budget of around $500. Here are my specs for reference:
- OS: Windows 11 Home 64-bit
- CPU: Intel Core i7 (3.60GHz, Coffee Lake)
- RAM: 16 GB
- Motherboard: ASRock Z390 Phantom Gaming 4S-IB
- Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 Super
- Storage: 465 GB SSD; 931 GB HDD
I'm hearing different suggestions from friends regarding storage, RAM, new monitors, and even a new motherboard. What do you think I should prioritize?

I think your GPU is still quite strong! The RTX 2080 Super should handle most games at 1080p without issues. If you want to go for a big jump, consider saving up a bit more for a GPU upgrade down the road. For now, put that $500 towards a new SSD and maybe some RAM. Once you sort storage, you can look into a new CPU/motherboard combo later on.

Thanks for the insight! It’s good to know my GPU still holds up well.

It really depends on what you're experiencing with your current setup. If you’re getting dropped frames, maybe start with storage. Upgrading to a 1TB SATA SSD can really help with loading times, especially for games. Your current SSD might be too small for your needs, so that could be a priority. A bigger SSD will definitely keep your games running smoothly and load faster!

Yeah, I've been trying to keep my games on the SSD too, but it fills up quickly! Definitely adding a new SSD to my list.

Consider your gaming habits. For instance, if you enjoy sim games or multitasking while gaming, boosting your RAM could be worthwhile. More RAM provides better stability and performance. I’d say start with storage first, then think about RAM. Upgrading your monitors might also help, but just make sure you balance performance with resolution. You don't want to lag when you're gaming!

Totally agree! Improved storage helps avoid those annoying loading screens, which is crucial.
