What are the best website platforms for a non-profit with high UX needs and a changing board?

I'm seeking recommendations for the ideal website platform for our membership-based organization. We cater to a wide range of users, from young students to seasoned alumni and corporate partners. A major challenge we face is high staff turnover on our board, which means easy handovers are essential. Key priorities include having a good mobile experience since many users browse on their phones, a straightforward content management system that non-techy board members can navigate with ease, and a budget-friendly option, as we operate non-profit. We also need to be able to display around 30GB of photos directly on the site. We've tried Wix, but it's been laggy, and while WordPress is on our radar, we're unsure if it would be easy enough for non-technical users. What platforms or setups can accommodate our needs, especially regarding easy transitions during board changes?

I'm starting work on a simple CMS for our community garden since I couldn’t find something that fits us. Pricing is crucial, and I’m thinking of tailoring it to help other non-profits like yours. Maybe we can compare notes?

That sounds awesome! Having something built by someone who knows the struggle could really help a lot of small organizations.

WordPress might be your best bet. It's widely used and pretty user-friendly, especially with the right themes and plugins. You just have to make sure your board members get some basic training to handle content updates easily.

Have you checked out TechSoup? They provide verified non-profit organizations access to discounted tools and resources, which could be a big help for you. They also offer training that might be useful for your board members.

Honestly, platforms like Wix, WordPress, or even Webflow could work well for you. Do you already have a setup? If you can enlist a tech-savvy young member to help, you might be able to get everything built in a weekend. Keep in mind though, without funding, you might end up with a basic version that doesn't meet all your expectations. Some student help could really ease the process.

That's a good point! Finding some enthusiastic students could really make a difference. Plus, it could give them some great experience!

As a web developer with years of experience, I'd suggest aiming for a custom setup that can handle your specific needs. Webflow might serve well, but it might cost a bit. Make sure that any platform you consider has good mobile support, and remember that content management is a breeze with the right tools. You may also want to explore various CMS options to find the best fit for your community.

The yearly board rotation complicates things, huh? You might want to set up role-based permissions. This way, new members can upload photos and edit content without messing with the site's layout. For your 30GB of photos, consider using an external cloud storage service to keep things neat and manageable during those transitions. Have your non-techy members tested your current setup? A quick trial could reveal a lot!
