What could be causing a crackling sound from my old monitor?

I have an Iiyama 24-inch monitor that's about 12 years old, and it's recently started making a crackling sound that sounds like arcing. Since I work in tech, I'd like to figure this out rather than just replace it. The monitor uses CCFL backlights, so could that be the issue? The noise seems to be originating from the top back of the monitor, not from the speakers.

You seem to know your stuff, but it’s perfectly fine to ask for help! Sometimes knowing when to seek advice is key, especially since electronic issues can get tricky. If you’re already thinking about upgrading, maybe now’s the perfect time to go for a bigger monitor.

Since you mentioned it’s a CCFL monitor, that crackling sound might be due to the backlight starting to fail. It’s definitely worth considering a replacement if it’s causing issues. You can find good deals on monitors these days, especially on sites like eBay or even charity shops, where they go for pretty cheap – under £30 in some cases! Just something to keep in mind if it gets worse.
