What Essential Software Should We Use for IT Operations and Management?

Hey everyone! So, I'm currently working in an environment where we have about 300-400 devices, and for too long, everything was managed manually. We've relied on SCCM and WSUS for updates, but honestly, we never really understood how effective they were. On top of that, printers have been added manually, and support for users has meant physically visiting their workstations since we didn't have solid remote support software until now.

Things were manageable until Covid hit, and our device count skyrocketed. We're trying to automate a lot of our manual processes and have already made significant progress by implementing PrinterLogic for printer management and are looking to use NinjaOne for remote support and patch management, hoping to phase out SCCM and WSUS completely.

Additionally, we just acquired Intune licenses for all our users. Our devices are Hybrid Azure AD Joined and managed through Intune, but we haven't fully utilized it yet. I'm on the lookout for any other software or systems, like an Asset Inventory solution, that we might be missing. Management is open to approving purchases if we can justify them. Any suggestions?

You should definitely consider adding asset inventory and logging/monitoring software to your stack. Something like Lansweeper could be really helpful, especially for inventory management. Don't forget about backups; they’re crucial for any IT operation!

You're right, we definitely need a solid asset inventory solution. Currently, we're just using the device list from Intune, but it's inadequate. And yes, we do have a backup solution for endpoints and servers, but we're looking into Unimus for configuration backups. I’ll check out Lansweeper; thanks for the tip!
