What GPU Should I Choose for My CAD Build?

I'm looking to upgrade my PC specifically for running Exocad dental, and I'm planning to spend around $1200 on a new CPU, motherboard, RAM, and GPU. I've already decided on the AMD Ryzen 9 7900X for the CPU and the MSI B650 GAMING PLUS WIFI motherboard, and I'll reuse my Corsair H110i Pro cooler. The big question for me is choosing the right GPU. I'm considering the RTX 5070 with 12 GB of VRAM, but I'm not sure if that will be sufficient, especially compared to the RX 9060 XT's 12 GB. I used to run an i5 9600k with an RTX 2060, and it was quite slow.

The software's recommended specs suggest a GPU like the Nvidia RTX 4080 or AMD Radeon RX 7700 XT, which are beyond my budget. I'm open to suggestions on the GPU and even on adjusting my CPU or motherboard choice if needed. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Keep in mind that RAM prices are kind of steep right now! If you manage to grab the 5070 Ti for $800, that’s a great deal. Also, while I understand you're sticking to AMD, the Intel options can be stronger, especially with the 14900K, but that one does have a hefty price tag that might not fit your overall budget.

Yeah, for what you're looking for, sticking to your budget is key, so maybe tweaking your CPU is something to consider!

The specs you're aiming for are definitely solid, but they do seem to be a bit lower than the recommended ones. If you're looking for a good GPU in your budget, the RTX 5070 Ti might be worth considering—it has 16 GB of VRAM similar to the 5080. It could handle Exocad well, and you might find a deal near that $800 price point.

I totally get the budget constraints, but just so you know, a few folks mentioned that CAD software often has specific requirements. If you can’t stretch to the 5070 Ti, the 5070 might still be fine for your needs.

You could also look at the RX 9070 or 9070 XT—they're in a similar price range as the 5070 and might offer better performance. Just be aware that there have been some reports about issues with those cards, which could be a gamble.

Thanks for the heads up! I’ve seen some concerns about their reliability too, so I'm a bit hesitant to go for those.
