I'm curious about what will happen to basic load balancers and public IP addresses after September 30 if I don't migrate them. Will they stop working, be deleted, or just become unsupported? Is there a chance Microsoft might automatically switch them to standard? I understand that the official stance is to migrate, but I'd like to know the real implications after that date.

It feels like a sneaky price hike to me! Has anyone else noticed that?
According to Microsoft, the last day to create new Basic Load Balancers is March 31, 2025. Existing ones will keep working. However, it’s safer to upgrade now; I did it with four of mine in five minutes!
Good news! Microsoft updated the deprecation date to February 2026 and confirmed a migration tool is coming out next month. It’s supposed to take about 10 minutes to migrate from old SKUs to the new ones. Just keep in mind this tool is specifically meant for basic IP on VPN gateways.
I'd suggest moving to standard as a best practice!
I think they will still function because there’s a provision that they’ll be supported for Cloud Services until their end-of-life. But, do you really want to gamble with that? Evaluate the risks for your setup, though honestly, I can't find a solid reason not to migrate unless you’re in an extended support scenario.
