Hey everyone! I just got a new Acer Nitro V15 laptop with Linux pre-installed, but I'm running into crashes whenever I play games or even just watch videos. My specs are 16GB of RAM, a 500GB SSD, and an RTX 4050 graphics card. I'm really hoping to find a good gaming-focused Linux distribution. I've heard mixed things about Mint and Pop!_OS—do you have any recommendations or tips for what to download?

I had a rough time with Pop!_OS and a multi-monitor setup; Wayland gave me some input issues. It’s a solid beginner option, but if you're into gaming, you might want to consider other options like Arch, which I switched to for better stability.

Interesting, thanks for the heads-up! I'll keep that in mind.

Pop!_OS and CachyOS are popular choices for gaming! They both have good support for NVIDIA drivers, which is essential for your RTX 4050. I would suggest giving them a try.

I just installed CachyOS, and it was a fantastic out-of-the-box experience. It comes with simple setup scripts for gaming. If you're up for learning some terminal commands, it’s a solid choice!

Before you choose a distro, what are you currently using? Also, make sure you install the proprietary NVIDIA driver. It can make a big difference in gaming performance!

Linux Mint is a good start if you're new, but for gaming, you might want to look beyond that. I switched to Nobara KDE, which is Fedora-based and specifically geared towards gaming. They've got the NVIDIA drivers pre-installed, making things easier for setup.
