With winter break coming up, I've decided it's time to transition from Windows 10 to Linux since it's no longer supported. I'm new to Linux and I'm curious about what distribution to start with. I want to ensure I can game as well, but I've heard that many games have issues on Linux. I'd also love a customizable user interface. What are your recommendations for a beginner looking to game?

A good way to start is to use a "live CD" or USB that lets you boot into a distro without affecting your current system. It’s a fun way to try out different ones and see which one you like best before committing to an installation.

Starting with Mint (Cinnamon) sounds perfect! Once you're comfortable, you can explore the issues you might encounter. If you want a more customized experience or plan to dive into gaming, consider Bazzite later on. Just remember that some games, especially online ones, might not work, but many single-player games run great with Proton.

For someone just starting out, I'd recommend trying Linux Mint with the Cinnamon desktop environment. It's user-friendly and has a look similar to Windows, making it easier to adapt to. Plus, it’s great for general use and helps you get familiar with Linux without too much hassle.

Just set up Omarchy; it's a great way to get started without any fuss. Good luck on your Linux journey!

You might want to check out Bazzite too. It's super easy to install and has a focus on gaming, so it’s really hard to mess it up. A great option for beginners looking to dive straight into gaming on Linux.

If you're up for it, you could look into Fedora Kinoite or even Arch if you want to learn more and don't mind using the terminal to set things up yourself. Arch is advanced but very customizable once you get the hang of it!
