What Should I Consider for Upgrading My PC’s RAM?

I built my computer back in 2021, and it's primarily used for software development and gaming. While gaming runs smoothly, I'm finding that my Docker containers are draining my RAM. Here's my setup:

1. ASUS ROG Strix B550-F Gaming Motherboard
2. AMD Ryzen 9 5950X CPU
3. Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro SL 32GB (2x16GB) DDR4 3600 RAM
4. Sapphire NITRO+ AMD RADEON RX 6900 XT SE GAMING OC Graphics Card

The specific RAM model I have isn't available in Canada anymore, so I'm looking to upgrade. I'm not focused on RGB features, but I want to ensure that the new memory is compatible and optimized for my system.

I need help understanding what specifications I should focus on while selecting new RAM. Is it best to match the speed, timings, or something else? If I can only match one feature, which should it be?

Thanks for that info! I didn’t realize my BIOS was defaulting my RAM to 2666MHz, which was a big surprise. I've got a much clearer idea now: I should go for 3600MHz RAM but might have to underclock to 3200MHz. Regarding CAS latency, if I get CL16 sticks, would that cap me at CL18 because of my current sticks? Also, any suggestions for software to check memory stability?

Matching four sticks of RAM at DDR4-3600 can be tricky. In my experience, it’s often more stable to go with just two sticks if you can. If you do get four, be prepared to adjust the speed down to DDR4-3200 because not all sticks work well together at higher speeds. Prioritize matching the speed first (3600MHz) and then see if you can reduce the timings. But be aware that mixing kits could make it hard to maintain stability, so expect slower speeds if mixing.
