What Should I Do After Accidentally Visiting the Dark Web Without Protection?

I was curious and ended up browsing a .onion site after stumbling across it on the Spanish Wikipedia. I thought I needed the TOR Browser to visit it but didn't want to get off my bed and power on my computer, so I found an app on the App Store. I installed it but didn't realize I needed to enable VPN protection before visiting the site. I entered the page, but it just sat there loading, and I didn't wait for it to finish because I started freaking out about what I had done. After that, I exited the app and uninstalled it, but now I'm worried that I might have downloaded malware to my iPhone or that someone could be spying on me. What should I do now?

A little tip: the dark web is often sensationalized. It's mainly a more private spot on the internet, not filled with hackers and viruses. It's just like the regular web, but with added layers of privacy. So unless you're diving into the really sketchy stuff, you should chill out!

If you feel particularly anxious, doing a factory reset on your phone could provide peace of mind, but it’s probably not necessary. Your phone is built to handle many types of traffic. Just stay away from sketchy downloads and you'll be okay.

Honestly, it sounds like you had a common experience. Many people panic about the dark web when they don't really need to. Just remember that the biggest risk comes from apps downloaded from outside the official app store. So unless you start installing weird apps, you should be just fine. Enjoy browsing!

You really don’t need to worry about getting malware just by visiting a webpage. The dark web uses the same basic rules as the regular internet: as long as you don’t download anything sketchy or fall for phishing attempts, you’re usually safe. Just make sure you’re cautious going forward!
