I had a lightning strike hit my yard, and now I noticed that my Ethernet port isn't functioning anymore. In the Device Manager, there's a yellow triangle indicating an issue with the Ethernet connection, but I can't update the drivers since I have no internet. I also can't find a reinstall option for the driver. I recently got a new router and had a tech reset everything, but the Ethernet still doesn't work on my computer, although it does work on my Xbox from the same port, so I know the cables are fine. I'm running Windows 10 on an Intel i7-7700k with an Asus Prime Z270 motherboard. If the Ethernet port is totally fried, what would I need to replace? Would a WiFi adapter be a simpler or more affordable option? Note that everything else in my computer functions properly and it's connected to a surge protector, so the PC itself seems safe.

Sounds like your Ethernet port is likely dead. A quick test is to boot from a USB stick with a Linux distro like Mint or Ubuntu. It won't affect your Windows install. If the Ethernet works in Linux, it’s a software issue. If not, it’s probably time to get a new network card. Just check if you have open slots on your motherboard. Alternatively, a USB Ethernet adapter is an easy fix too!
Just get a USB Ethernet adapter; they’re super cheap and widely available. You’re fortunate that your computer is still working; it could have been worse!
Just ordered one! Never realized how simple Ethernet could be.
Thanks for the detailed instructions! You really helped me out.
