My dad is pretty tech-savvy and has built gaming PCs for ages, but he's more comfortable with hardware than the latest software. He used to work with RedHat around the year 2000, and now he's considering switching from Windows because of privacy concerns. The last time we talked about it, he mentioned, "It was mostly text in C" and asked if Linux even has mouse-driven interfaces these days. I use Linux Mint but don't know a lot about the details myself. I'd like to help him understand what he needs to know if he makes the switch. I know Red Hat is now represented by Fedora, and I plan to send him a distro questionnaire if he asks, but I want to prep him with as much knowledge as I can.

He really just wants to know if the experience is similar to Windows, right? Since you’re using Linux Mint, why not have him give it a go? It’s pretty much like using Windows, and he doesn’t have to mess with the terminal at all—he can install and update stuff just from the app store! By the way, Red Hat hasn't been replaced by Fedora; instead, Fedora is a project created by Red Hat. He's in for a treat with all the improvements since the early 2000s!

I’ll probably bring my laptop down for a visit next month, but it’s a long bus ride just to show him! And thanks for the heads-up about the Red Hat thing; I didn’t realize that, so it’s good to know.
