Hey all! I've got an interview coming up for a Hardware Technician role, which is also referred to as a System Services Representative. This job entails onsite repairs for various devices like PCs, laptops, printers, and ATMs. I'm curious if anyone here has experience with similar roles or has gone through this kind of interview process. What can I expect? Are there specific questions that come up frequently? Thanks in advance for your insights and advice!

I did a similar job years ago and it often involved diagnosing issues on-site. If it turned out to be a hardware problem, we would have to order the part and return later to install it. Be prepared for scenarios where parts are either delayed or incorrect, which usually leads to some angry customers. Communication is crucial in this job, both with the stockroom to ensure right orders and with customers to keep them updated. You'll definitely want to think about how you'd handle customer complaints during the interview!
Do you have any previous experience in this field? It could really help you during the interview if you can share specifics about your background.
Yes, I've got some junior field technician experience under my belt. I’ve worked on diagnosing and repairing hardware, mostly assisting senior techs with desktops and printers. I also have a co-op experience in vulnerability assessment and studied IT Operations in college.
Totally get that! Keeping customers informed makes a huge difference as they appreciate knowing what's going on!
