What’s a reasonable price for building three e-commerce websites?

I'm an AI/ML engineer who does web development on the side, and I've got a potential client interested in creating three fully-featured e-commerce websites. Each site should have product management for 50 to 200 products, a complete admin dashboard, integrations for multiple payment gateways, shipping features like tracking and cost calculation, and a responsive design for both desktop and mobile. I'm looking to quote a fair and competitive price that reflects the work involved. What price range do you think would be reasonable per site?

Definitely don’t reinvent the wheel! If they want something quickly and efficiently, platforms like Shopify are the way to go. Doing everything from scratch is a huge commitment. Also, keep in mind the unique selling proposition they need compared to existing solutions. If that can be done through plugins in a pre-existing platform, it's worth bringing up!

Honestly, if you're building all of this from scratch, you might be biting off more than you can chew—especially since e-commerce is super complex. I'd suggest considering platforms like Shopify, which can handle most of the requirements out of the box and is highly customizable. This could save you a ton of time and effort in the long run. Plus, I'd put your quote between $50k and $100k for the three websites, depending on the client's budget and needs.

A good approach is to factor in how long it’ll take you to implement and test everything. Once you've estimated that, add a 10% margin for safety, then multiply by your hourly rate. Just remember to charge based on the value it's going to bring the client, not just your time.
