What’s the Best CPU Upgrade for My Ryzen 5 3600?

I'm using a Ryzen 5 3600 for mostly gaming at 1440p, along with some occasional video editing and 3D modeling in Blender and Godot. My setup includes 32GB of 3600MHz RAM and an Asus Tuf 8GB RTX 3070. I heard the Ryzen 7 5800X and the 5800X3D are solid upgrades, but I'm struggling to find them in stock. I'm hesitant to switch to the AM5 platform due to high RAM prices. What would be the best CPU upgrade for me considering my setup?

The Ryzen 7 5700X is a solid final upgrade for any AM4 system, coming with 8 capable cores. It’s efficient and runs cool, making it a great choice if you can find one. Alternatively, watch for deals on the 5900X; it offers excellent performance too.

The Ryzen 7 5800X is definitely a great choice! It'll significantly boost your gaming and creative tasks compared to the 3600. For heavy workloads, consider the Ryzen 9 5900X too, but if you're mostly gaming, the 5800X is the sweet spot.

Since you’re doing some 3D modeling, I'd recommend going for the 5700X or 5800X3D if you find them. I upgraded from the R5 3600 to the 5800X3D, and it’s been amazing for both gaming and productivity. Coupled with your RTX 3070, you’ll see great performance at 1440p.

I recently opted for AM5, and while it’s a pricier option, it might be a better long-term choice. If you’re looking for performance now, the 5800X is fantastic for both gaming and creative work. Just make sure to find a good deal!

If you can find it, the Ryzen 7 5800X3D is a massive upgrade from the 3600, especially for gaming. I sold mine recently on Facebook, and it's still sought after. If you have access to a Microcenter, check their AM5 bundles—it could be worth it despite the cost.
