I'm looking for a Linux distribution to run on my old HP 350 G2 (L8E47UT) laptop. I don't have much experience with Linux and I'm overwhelmed by the options out there. The laptop will mainly be used for writing, storing pictures, and browsing the internet with Firefox. Here are my specs for reference:
- 1.7 GHz Intel Core i3-4005U Processor
- 4GB of 1600 MHz DDR3 RAM
- 500GB 7200 rpm SATA Internal Drive
- Integrated Intel HD Graphics 4400
I'm hoping to find a user-friendly option. Any suggestions?

I'd recommend starting with Ubuntu or Linux Mint. Both of these are pretty user-friendly and work well on older hardware. Mint is especially nice for newcomers because it's designed to be easy to use right out of the box.
You might also want to try Q4OS with the Plasma desktop. It’s lightweight and works well on older machines, plus you can easily replace your HDD with an SSD for better performance.
Definitely look into Linux Mint, especially the XFCE edition. It's stable, secure, and has great community support. Just be careful not to overload it with too many open applications at once, or you might notice lag.
If you're considering lightweight options, I've had good luck with MX Linux Xfce. You can also explore Lubuntu or Xubuntu since they're both less resource-intensive. They should run fine on your specs without much lag.
I totally agree about MX Linux! It’s a fantastic choice for old laptops and has a supportive community.
Fedora could be another option. If you decide to go this route, consider bumping your RAM up to 8GB for a smoother experience with apps and browsing.

Good call on the XFCE version! If you find it slow, consider upgrading your RAM, it can make a significant difference.
