What’s the Best Linux Distro for Gaming as a Beginner?

Hey everyone! I'm set on moving away from Windows and diving into Linux, particularly a distribution that's good for gaming. I'm searching for something beginner-friendly but still allows me to learn more about Linux. I've heard mixed things about Bazzite being a bit too restrictive for learning. Also, I've read that some Linux distros don't play well with Nvidia graphics cards and newer hardware, which is a concern for me.

I plan to have my SSD partitioned with Linux on one side and Windows on the other for online gaming. Currently, I'm considering the following distributions: Cachy OS, Linux Mint, Pop OS, Zorin OS, Bazzite, and Endeavour. Here are my specs if it helps:

- R5 7600
- 4070TI SUPER
- 4TB NVMe SSD (split into 2TB each)

Any advice on which distro I should start with would be really appreciated, as I'm planning to reset my PC next week to make this leap!

I’d suggest taking a bootable USB with Linux Mint to check it out. It’s quite stable, though the software may not be the latest. Personally, I have no issue with that since I can install what I need myself.

It really depends on what games you play. If you're into titles like League or Fortnite, sticking with Windows might be better. But for Linux, I'd recommend looking into distros based on Arch, Fedora, or Debian. Personally, I like Arch-based systems for the package manager, but any distro should work fine nowadays.

If your focus is gaming, I don't see why you'd choose a complicated distro when Bazzite could let you game more than mess around in the terminal.

Pop OS 22.04 is very Nvidia-friendly and comes with proprietary drivers pre-installed. The GNOME desktop isn't for everyone, and rolling releases like Arch can be a hassle sometimes. If you want to try different distros, consider putting Ventoy on a USB stick to boot multiple ISOs and test them without formatting anything!

Definitely try ZorinOS and PopOS. They both offer great user experiences. I’ve heard positive feedback about Pop OS fixing various issues lately.
