What’s the Best Non-Conductive Thermal Paste for AM5 CPUs to Avoid Pulling When Upgrading?

I'm curious about the best thermal paste options for my AM5 CPU. I know that thermal paste doesn't have huge performance differences, but I'm really focused on avoiding two potential issues: 1) using conductive paste that might spill, and 2) pulling the CPU out of the socket when I accidentally take the heatsink off during an upgrade. Any recommendations?

Just a tip: if you find the heatsink stuck, use a hair dryer to warm up the thermal paste a bit. That should loosen it up. But with AM5, you really shouldn’t have to worry about the CPU coming out with it.

Also, Noctua offers a little guard to prevent paste spillage on the PCB after mounting, and it’s super cheap. Just something to keep in mind! You’re probably overthinking the adhesive strength of thermal paste!

Yeah, I’ve only seen problems like that with AM4 CPUs. With AM5, the bracket keeps everything secure, so you don't have to stress about it. Just avoid the really cheap stuff, but anything from a solid brand should be good!

Thanks for sharing! That makes me feel a lot better about my upgrade.

If you’re using an AM5 socket, you’re mostly in the clear! The design prevents pulling the CPU out since it’s LGA, unlike the older PGA AM4. Any good thermal paste brand should work fine for you.
