What’s the Best Way to Manage Company Smartphones and Mobile Contracts?

I'm taking over the management of around 200 employees' smartphones and mobile contracts. I need to get everything organized and find a way to inventory devices accurately. This includes keeping track of who has each phone, the assigned SIM cards, the PINs for those SIM cards, and more. I'm considering using Excel to manage this data, but I would love to hear how others handle their smartphone and contract management in their companies. Any tools or systems you use?

Are you a sysadmin, right? What did you find when you Googled this? If you're looking for something specific, let us know what you couldn’t discover!

Of course, I ran a Google search already! But I’m more interested in personal advice than just facts. Sometimes forums can help me find the best solutions based on personal experiences, and that’s why I asked here!

For our company, we use an enterprise platform provided by our phone vendor that keeps track of everything like phone numbers, contracts, models, and cost centers. We also manage devices through Intune, which makes it super simple to organize everything.

Implement an asset management system. Each phone should have an asset tag so you can see which employee has it at a glance. For SIM cards, if there's frequent swapping, you might want to enter the phone numbers into the Active Directory user objects so tracking is easier. As for PINs, we mostly use eSIMs now, which simplifies things a ton—only a support PIN to manage with the carrier! As for contracts, most of the time, devices remain the same until they actually need replacing, well after the contract has expired.
