I'm trying to decide between two RAM options for my build. I can either go with 64GB of DDR4 RAM running at 3200MHz or 32GB of DDR5 RAM clocked at 6000MHz. Both options will be paired with the same GPU and CPUs (5700X3D and 7700X). Which setup would perform better?

DDR5 6000 is faster overall, but remember that having more RAM means more capability for heavy tasks. If you constantly use more than 32GB, the 64GB DDR4 setup could end up being better. It's all about how you're using your system.
For gaming specifically, performance will vary. The 5700X3D might offer a slight edge in some games, but for productivity, the 7700X would likely take the lead.

The general rule is that if you're not using more than 32GB of RAM, the faster RAM (in this case, the 6000MHz DDR5) will give you better performance. You only really notice the benefits of more RAM when you're running out of it, so if your usage is below 32GB, stick with the DDR5.

OP, this is spot on. Don't just guess your RAM needs, it's better to test it!

If you're not planning to use over 32GB, the 6000MHz DDR5 will be a good choice. But if your usage regularly surpasses 32GB, the 64GB RAM will handle that better, regardless of being a bit slower. Personally, I've found that as a game developer, I eventually needed more than 32GB.

Don’t forget about CL timings! DDR5 is generally faster, but DDR4 usually has lower latency. That can mean you may not notice much difference unless you're really pushing the limits with RAM usage.

Considering your CPUs, the 7700X is indeed faster than the 5700X3D. If you're mainly gaming and staying under 32GB of RAM usage, you'd find the DDR5 performs well. But if you think you'll exceed 32GB often, go for the 64GB of DDR4.
