Which Linux Distribution Should I Choose for My New Laptop?

I'm looking for advice on choosing the right Linux distribution for my new laptop, which has an Intel i5 13th Gen processor, an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 graphics card, and 16 GB of RAM. I've dabbled a bit with Linux Mint on a friend's laptop, but I'm not very experienced—I've never really used the terminal before. I'm an engineering student who loves coding and playing single-player games, and my goal is to completely switch to Linux and avoid using Windows 11. I've heard good things about Pop!_OS and Fedora, but I'm open to suggestions. Can anyone recommend the best distro for my setup, considering compatibility with my hardware and ease of use? Also, if there's any other similar discussion I've missed, please let me know. Thanks in advance for your help!

Honestly, I suggest trying out around 5 or 6 different distros before settling on one. The great thing about Linux is that they’re all free, so you can experiment without any cost!

Don't stress too much about which distro to choose. Mint is a solid pick for newbies since it's user-friendly and 'just works' really well. That said, the desktop environment can make a big difference! Cinnamon, KDE, and Gnome are worth looking into. Personally, I like Fedora—especially if you go for KDE. You will need to install NVIDIA drivers manually, but it's straightforward with clear instructions. Just make sure to test the distro before you fully install it, especially to check all your hardware compatibility.

You might want to check out AnduinOS! It runs smoothly on my laptop that wasn't able to upgrade to Windows 11. It's based on Ubuntu but offers a lightweight experience and a look similar to Windows 11, while still being a Linux system.
