Hey everyone! I'm super excited because I'm getting my first personal PC next week (an ASUS TUF Gaming A15). After using a family laptop and desktop for a long time, I want to dive into the world of Linux for my personal setup. I've heard that Linux is great, but I'm totally lost on where to start. My friend asked me what Linux distribution (distro) I'd prefer, but I'm not sure how to make that choice. I'm an artist, so I need something that helps me stay organized and allows for note-taking – plus, I want to play some games on it too! My friend suggested I think about whether I want something lightweight, gaming-focused, aesthetic, or minimalist, but I really don't know what all that means. Before diving into Linux, take a moment to ask yourself if you're ready to switch into a learning mode. If you're excited to tackle something new, go for it! Just remember, Windows can be a good fallback if you find Linux isn't for you right away. Learning a new OS can be quite rewarding!
You should definitely check out some resources like the distro selection page in the Linux 4 Noobs wiki. It can really help you compare different distros and find one that fits your needs. Also, make sure to take regular backups and maybe test things out in a virtual machine before committing!
