Which Linux Distro Should I Install for My Laptop?

Hey everyone! I'm new to the whole Linux scene and I'm considering installing it on my laptop. I have an MSI Thin 15 B12UC-1621XPL with an Intel Core i5-12450H, 32 GB RAM, 1 TB storage, an RTX 3050, and a nice 144 Hz display. I'm looking for a beginner-friendly distro since I'm a bit of a noob. My main goals are to play games on Steam, watch YouTube, Twitch, and Netflix, and manage my emails. I'd appreciate any advice on which Linux version to choose and if there's anything specific I should keep in mind. Thanks!

When you dive into Linux, it's smart to start testing a few distros to find what you like. Zorin OS and Mint are quite similar to Windows, so the transition should feel familiar and comfortable.

Mint should be a great fit for you. And remember, most distros come with a software manager to easily install apps, so you won’t have to hunt for them online. Plus, you might want to check out alternatives for popular applications like Discord, Minecraft, and Epic Games.

I recommend trying out Fedora Workstation. It's user-friendly and should work well with your hardware.

Thanks! I've heard Fedora is a solid option, glad to get your confirmation!

You have a lot of good choices for your spec! Fedora, Zorin OS, and Mint are all excellent. Fedora might require a little learning, while Zorin and Mint can make the transition smoother. Just keep in mind that Netflix on Linux often maxes out at 720p, unless you find some workarounds. Also, check out ProtonDB to see how your games will run on Linux. You can test the distros out in a live session to make sure everything works fine before installing it.

Zorin OS or Linux Mint are likely your best bets. They are super easy to get started with.
