I'm trying to choose a motherboard for my setup. I've done a lot of research but am still unsure. I need something that provides the necessary lanes and ports for my use in filmmaking and gaming with a 9950X3D and RTX 5080. Here are some options I'm considering:

- MSI MAG X870 TOMAHAWK WIFI
- ASUS ROG STRIX X870-F GAMING WIFI
- MSI PRO X870-P WIFI
- Gigabyte X870E AORUS ELITE WIFI7
- MSI PRO X870E-P WIFI

Any advice would be highly appreciated!

For your rig, I’d recommend either the MSI MAG X870 TOMAHAWK or the Gigabyte X870E AORUS ELITE WIFI7. Both are solid choices with great VRM support, suitable for your 9950X3D and 5080 setup. The ROG Strix is nice but tends to be pricey for what it offers.

I have two builds, one with Z790-E and the other an X870-F. I feel confident I chose right for my 9930X3D. Both have their pros, but I think you’ll find the right choice among the ones you listed.

If lanes and USB connections are important, go with one of the X870E boards like the Gigabyte X870E AORUS ELITE WIFI7. It's got a ton of I/O options and full lane support thanks to the E chipset. Plus, it looks great, even without RGB if that’s not your thing!

I have a similar setup with an RTX 4090 and chose the MSI MPG X870E Carbon. Honestly, as long as the motherboard matches your needs for ports and slots, you can't go wrong with any of these. I picked mine based on budget, aesthetics, and my past experience with MSI, which has been great.

If all these motherboards provide the connectivity you need, they should work well for your setup. Personally, I'd lean towards a B850 motherboard since it offers all the essentials without the added cost of the X870 features that I don't think you’ll benefit from.

What do you think about the X870E instead?

I noticed some of these boards come with WiFi 7. They use the WiFi 7 MT7925 M.2, which can be an extra cost of around £30 if you want to get antennas too. Just something to keep in mind!
