Which Programming Language Should I Choose: Python or Java?

Hey everyone! I've been working as a QA for the past three years and I'm looking to transition into backend development. I have a bit of knowledge about both Python and Java, but not a lot of practical experience in either. I'm curious to know which language is currently more popular in the industry and would be better for job opportunities. Additionally, should I also learn frontend development, or can that come later? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

If you're really worried about job prospects, you might want to steer clear of this subreddit for career advice. It can be pretty harsh here! Try asking in r/cscareerquestions instead for more supportive feedback.

Java tends to have a lot more job opportunities in traditional sectors, and it's less impacted by the rise of generative AI compared to Python. The entry-level Python job market is pretty saturated, making it tougher to break in. If you have a degree, I'd strongly suggest going for Java. Frontend work might be hit or miss since AI is increasingly taking over that space, so it might be better to get solid in backend first.

Honestly, both languages can be valuable, but right now, I'd lean toward Java since the market feels a bit less crowded compared to Python. That said, be prepared to pick up some concepts from both if you can!
