I'm in the market for a new SSD to install in my laptop, which has a PCIe Gen5 slot. The 4TB models of the SN850x and 9100 Pro are priced similarly, so cost isn't the deciding factor for me. I'm particularly concerned about heat management since it'll be used in a laptop. Are there any other considerations I should keep in mind for laptop use?

If your previous M.2 drive wasn't Gen5, it might not have run too hot. But transitioning to Gen5 could raise temps. Do you really need those faster speeds? If you're mainly gaming, the speed boost might not be critical. If your setup tends to run hot, stick with something like the SN850X for its power efficiency.
You definitely want to avoid the heat issues that come with Gen5 drives in a laptop. I'd recommend considering the WD_Black SN7100. It's even more power-efficient and should keep your laptop cooler.
For laptops, I'd go with the SN850X because it's designed for lower power consumption, which should help keep your laptop cooler. I just installed one in my desktop, and it’s incredibly fast without generating too much heat.
