Why are my internet speed test results so inconsistent?

I recently set up new internet service and decided to test my speeds using the speedtest app on my phone. I'm seeing some odd results: one test shows 150 Mbps, another jumps to 550 Mbps (which is supposed to be my maximum speed), and then another shows 300 Mbps. This is all happening while no other devices are connected at the same time. Is there something wrong, or is this normal?

That’s just the nature of WiFi! Try moving closer to your router and minimize interference. Also, make sure you're using the 5GHz band if your router supports it for faster speeds.

There are several factors at play; your device, connection strength, and even other devices can impact speed. If you want to be sure, test on fast.com for a different perspective.

Are you doing the tests back-to-back or at the same time? Running them one after the other isn’t quite the same as running them simultaneously.

It sounds like your WiFi might be causing the speed fluctuations. For more accurate results, try testing your speed on a PC that’s connected directly to the router using an Ethernet cable.

These inconsistencies could be perfectly normal. Internet speeds can be affected by when your neighbors are online, especially if you all share the same provider. If results are consistent but seem low, you might want to reach out to your provider for support.
